The Twenty-Fifth Day

Up this morning at 700, had some breakfast, and then slept for a few more minutes. I did not realize that I had not started the timer I had set for myself and so I was almost late for work this morning. This morning was very slow. I washed the cuvettes and then made some gels. At 1030 Yulan told me that there was nothing to do until after lunch and that I could leave early. I went to the Carrefour and bought fruits, bread products, and some jelly. I was thinking about getting some spaghetti from the imported aisle but decided against it as it would probably not make the trip back to the dorm.  I got a sweet loaf of bread that was very good. It was similar to the texture of banana bread without banana flavor and nuts. I will eat in my room today for lunch.

Lunch was fine - I do not seem to have an appetite yet I am physically hungry. It is just that nothing sounds good, and I am concerned about keeping things down.  I just feel weird.

This afternoon was pretty good. I changed the bacteria with the electo transformer then put them into the culture temperature shaker. One of the transformation cuvettes was leaking so we almost lost a sample. I got to dispose of it. I then had an hour and a half long break.  I need some reading material or I need to start bringing my ukulele for these down times.  I figured out that I have 4 swims per week for the time that I have left and watched Leo play Plague Inc. After the break was over, I took the bacteria and cultured them on a petri dish. These dishes were put into the incubator and will be ready on Friday to test whether they were transformed.  We then started talking about pizza because I said that I might get one tonight. There are several pizza places around here - I will be going to Dominoes tonight. There is another across the highway that I will probably go try as well.

I went for a run as the air was reasonably clear. I did not feel great - was probably holding 8 minute pace by the end. I think my poor performance is because of the air for one, but more so, I believe it is because I am not taking in near enough calories and am running on empty.  I will go get pizza tonight and some boiled peanuts and soybeans.

I ate the entire 12 inch pizza. I choose the Hawaiian (pineapple and canadian bacon), and it was not bad for Dominoes in China, especially considering the quality of Dominoes in the USA.  It was a lot more expensive then any other food that I have bought here. It was 65 yuan for the pizza (12-inch size) so close to the price in USA.  I wish that I had taken my phone with me when I went there. The menu was very interesting. On the classics pizza flap, they had a BBQ Chicken pizza with mayo. It looked terrible. The place was about the nicest establishment that I had been in.  I bought the pizza and went to my room to eat it. On my way out, I ran into Vincent and a group of his friends. They were heading out to celebrate a graduation and departure (the graduate was headed home tomorrow). Once I ate my pizza, I went out to the Sesh Wan restaurant and met them there. I just hung out with them - they talked, I listened. I did talk about food, cooking, where I am from, and my lineage with the last name of Rooney. It was great. They shared their dishes with me so I enjoyed a chicken gizzard and some leftover fish that they had (which turned out to be mostly tofu). They had some Minute Maid orange juice that was tasted wonderful. I don't know why it tasted so much better than the US brand, but it was definitely good. The store downstairs sells it so I may get myself some. Once the four guys finished their beers, we walked back to the dorm. The waiter gave the guy who was leaving (the graduate) a 1.25 liter Sprite on the house for being a good customer for 3 years.  Side note:  The entire time we were there, a group of guys at the table near us were smoking.  I have forgotten how sensitive I am to cigarette smoke. In the part of Texas that I am from, there are strict regulations on where people can smoke, and there is no smoking allowed in restaurants.  It was not very appealing to get whiffs of those noxious fumes in between gusts of wind (gust meaning breezes or zephyrs).

Good night to all and God bless. Photos to follow in next post.
