The AQI is back up to hazardous at 309, hopefully I have the right type of mask and that the AC unit in my room has a filter.
This morning was good apart from the AQI being though the roof. I was also very tired as I did not sleep well last night. Yulan and I determined the density of bacteria in cultures using light and the did some stuff with fungus. We walked over to the other Biotech building and got fungus cultures that had sporulated and got spores from them. These we counted under a microscope to determine density. I was falling asleep in my chair as she did that. She had me take photos of the screen displaying the view under the microscope and then I gave them to her on blue tooth. That was cool, it was the first time that I had ever done that. I did not know that it was possible. She was going to use those photos to count.
There are some 3-M masks in the lab I am going to grab one and start wearing them. The pollution makes me feel horrible. I am going to the Great Wall tomorrow and will be wearing a mask if the pollution does not go down.
Today Wendy asked me how often I washed my shoes and my hat. I told him that I didn't, He started on a kind of tangent about how people here learned to wash things so that they could do laundry. I don't think that he understand that most Americans do not wash shoes or hats.
I was also looking at the file folders as Yulan saved a photo of a gel yesterday and Wendy uses that name on his files, although he spells it Windy as in the weather.
This afternoon was pretty good although Yulan was doing more stuff on the computer then anywhere else. She printed off a paper for me to read but I forgot it in the lab. I did some clean up and started putting tips into boxes then Wendy started me mixing soil and filling containers so I did that for a few minutes. He is very rammy as Dr. Murray would say. Yulan looked through some more of my photos and we made plans for tomorrows great wall visit. I am to meet her at the west gate at 520 AM and we will take a subway to another station and then ride about an hour north to the wall. Hopefully this will mean that the air is cleaner and that I will not have to wear the mask while we walk along it. Mister Chi brought in another watermelon and I ate more watermelon. I have eaten so much of it in the past few days. The AQI is still very high but I now have a better mask to wear that I got from the lab. I am going to go swim about a mile at a walking pace. I have got to exercise a little even if the AQI is about 250. There was some wind blowing today when I finished with work. It is blowing west so hopefully it will clear some of the crap in the air out.
Swimming was good I walked there listening to Dark Side of the Moon, it was great. I wore my mask outside, the not as good but better then nothing one when compared to the 3-M that I will be wearing in the morning if it is bad. I did 2000 at walking pace for swimming, I did the first 1500 free with a little back and no stopping then mixed it up with the last 500. On the walk back listened to more Pink Floyd and enjoyed it. At the little fruit stand that is on the way home there was a guy with a bird, a very small little bird that was very fluffy and very black. I should have taken a photo but I do not think he would have understood my want to take one. I took some photos of the area while walking to the dorm. I went to the Yellow restaurant today and had a okay meal, it would have been good but it was just too salty. the things that were not salted going into the dish were good, like the bok choy but the broth was super salty. After that I came back to the dorm and knocked on Vincent's door and asked him about church on Sunday. I know the plan for that now. I then went to Ben's room and sat and listened to him talk and tell stories.
I was thinking about the goal for my project for this summer and I realized that the goal is to find out what genes control what within the fungus.
