The Frst Day

I arrived at about 5 AM here and was picked up by people at the airport. They brought me to my dorm. The dorm room is a two person dorm but right now I am alone in the room, I hope that it stays that way. It is nice to be able to dictate what happens in ones room. They provided sheets, a bed, a fridge, and water is 10 yuan for 18.9 liters, that is drinking water at least. I need to go check out the kitchen that is on the first floor. I do not want to be eating out every day for 3 meals a day. There are several grocery stores that I can go get stuff at to cook with. I should be able to use the sink water to cook providing that I cook what the water has touched.
When I first got to the dorm I set up stuff and unpacked. Getting connected to the internet was a big deal, it took a few tries to communicate that I needed to get on the web, they gave me an either net cable and now I have internet. It stopped working for a while and I panicked a little, but an American who is here helped me out. He has shown me some places and it is awesome to have someone in person to talk to. I hope to get to know him better and have a make a good friend in him.
I was invited to go to lunch but I accidentally slept through it, that was interesting. I had dinner with the person who I was supposed to have lunch with, his English pronunciation is very poor and it is hard to understand him, but It should get easier to talk to him as time by. The food was pretty good, but still I will want to make food at some point the grocery store nearby should be able to provide me with what I need.   There is a small store on the first floor of the dorm that supplies stuff like a convenience store would have.
The air pollution is pretty bad, and the American told me that after it rains the pollution is worse, it rained last night and the AQI for this morning is about 180.
I am planning on getting some plants help get the air quality in my room a little better so that I can work out in my room. I also need to get a mat, and detergent to wash my clothes with. washing machine use is very expensive so I will be washing by hand. The American said that one of his Kenyan friends goes to a gym, I will have to go check it out.
Local time here is 500 AM I could not sleep, so I decided to start this blog a little early

  1. So glad you got your blog set up -- you will be able to create a wonderful record of your stay in Beijing -- the good and the bad (and the ugly when it comes to the air quality).
